Tiger Hill, Darjeeling, India (2005.2.2.)
Yes, the sunrise from Tiger Hill is probably one of the best thing you can get in Darjeeling, but -frankly speaking- it's not comparable with the scenery in Tibet. That was my problem; I already stayed in Tibet for about one and half month before coming to Nepal and India, and I must say that the sunrise (and sunset) in Tibet is hundred times more impressive. Many travellers say that the best route is to travel from India to Tibet via Nepal, as the scenery becomes more gorgeous, the environment gets cleaner, and people tend to be less aggressive. (Don't get me wrong plz. What I mean is 'in general'.)
Besides, the observatory platform was quite touristic and artificial. Sure, it's nice to stay indoor instead of freezing outside in the early morning, but it's a weird feeling to 'buy' a ticket to see the sunrise.
However, if you go to Darjeeling, you should not forget to visit Tiger Hill. Otherwise there's nothing much to do. But make sure to check out the weather before you catch the jeep in the early morning.
Here you can see me with two Korean boys I met in the hotel ; Song(left - Don't confuse his name with mine. His last name is Song.) and Choi(right). Song's style is very 'Japanese', but he is Korean. No doubt. They were so cute with their strong Busan accent^^
All I know about the woman next to me is that she has travelled in India for quite a long time and she was going back to Korea soon. I met her in the evening I arrived at Darjeeling. As you see on the pic, she is somewhat 'camera-shy'. She didn't even tell me her name, but I heard her last name is Cha.
And here is another photo you can see me, on the way back to the town from Tiger Hill. Song and Choi took the jeep, while I and Cha walked down from the hill and took the bus.
