Initially, I thought the persimmons were left on the tree because they were rotten.
It did not cross my mind that they are left behind intentionally by the farmers so that the magpies can have food to eat during the winter when food is scarce.
It is really nice of the Korean farmers to even think of the well-being of the birds. It is very touching. I can better appreciate the photos now.

난 까치처럼 감을 먹기를 좋아해요. 하지만 따지 않고 남겨 두는 감을 안 먹어요. ^^

나무에 따지 않고 남겨두는 감은 까치를 비롯한 새들이 먹으라고 남겨두는 거예요.
겨울에는 먹이 구하는 게 쉽지 않을테니, 그렇게 남겨둔 감이라도 먹고 살아남으라는 뜻이에요.
다른 나라에도 비슷한 전통이 있는지는 모르겠지만, 한국사람들은 옛날에 자연과 조화롭게 살아가는 것을 중요하게 생각했거든요. 사회가 산업화되고 복잡해지면서 그 전통이 점점 사라져서 요즘에는 그런 모습을 보기가 힘들어요. 참 안타까운 일이죠...
