Not only Kimchi

... is free in Korea. (This is another post inspired by one of my blogpal.)
Water(sometimes tea) comes automatically served at first when you go to any restaurant and take a seat.
Ketchup is free in McDonald, Burger King, KFC, etc.
I was shocked to know that I have to pay extra money -50cent- to get one Ketchup when I visited Europe in 2002. And I would never understand how come that beer is even cheaper than water.

Public toilets are free too in Korea, while I always have to carry small change in my pocket, ready to pay for the "fee".

When I took a two-day-trip to Ganghwa Island this summer, I found myself wondering whether the public toilet at the bus terminal is free or not. I hesitated for a moment and asked my friend "Is the toilet free here?" My friend bursted into laughter. "Hey! Are you still traveling abroad? Remember, you're in KOREA!!!"

Oh yes, we're in Korea.

Thank you for reminding me of that!

In Singapore, Ketchup is also free in fast food outlets. But not all public toilets here are free. I find that those toilets that need a fee to use are usually filthy and stinky while free toilets are dry and clean. Quite an irony. ;)

The only toilet I know that is not free is the one at the entrance of Insadong (in the direction to Angukdong), where you must use coins. I've never used it so I can't tell you whether it's clean or not.

So how much do you need to pay for using public toilets in Singapore?

I have not paid to use a public toilet for a long while. It used to cost 10 cents (60 won) but I think the fee should have increased to 20 cents (120 won) by now.
